"This revolution started online. This revolution started on Facebook. This revolution started [...] in June 2010 when hundreds of thousands of Egyptians started collaborating content. We would post a video on Facebook that would be shared by 60,000 people on their walls within a few hours. I've always said that if you want to liberate a society just give them the Internet. [...]"
The people we have been electing to government positions have been working really hard to protect their interests and wallets. What happened to working for us?
When is the last time you contacted a government official and made your voice heard? If you read my post "What Happens When You Write Your Congressman" you know that the letters you send may not always get read. That is true if you are a lone voice. One letter among hundreds of emails that a politician receives on a daily basis might not make much of a difference. But what if we all grouped together and sent 20, 40, 60 emails to a congressman in a day. What if those 60 people grew to 100 or to 1000 or maybe more? Could they still ignore us?
I am not the only person in America that feels like the poor and middle class are being screwed by politicians… am I? Anyone with a child in a public school is wondering what programs or teachers will be cut from schools next year due to budget cuts. Taxes are rising for average Americans but the government won’t cut out tax breaks to the rich or companies, like oil for example, who are making record profits. Politicians who promise to create jobs then spend a majority of their time passing laws to make it harder to get an abortion. And if you are gay and want to be married, well the party of “less government” wants to tell you who you can marry too!
I want to start a letter writing campaign to our government officials. But this time it cannot be just my letter. It has to be bigger and better than that. We are America aren’t we? We are supposed to be land of the free and home of the brave. We have our freedom of speech so let’s be brave and stop just sitting back and letting them do this to us!
The Egyptian revolution started with one person on their computer. What about our revolution? Are you ready? If you are please help spread the word about my website www.freetobeheard.com. Become a fan on Facebook and Twitter. Tell people who are frustrated with politics that it is time to work together and be heard. The letter writing will begin soon, so be ready!
