The back of my bedroom door I had quotes from GNR songs. These were rock gods in my book and I really had to get up front and really see this band.
My mom asked what it was I loved about Guns N’ Roses so much. I tried to explain that Axl Roses’ lyrics were like poetry to me. What did I mean she wanted to know- so I quoted her this from my favorite song…
Don't damn me When I speak a piece of my mind
'Cause silence isn't golden when I'm holding it inside.
'Cause I've been where I have been
And I've seen what I have seen
I put the pen to the paper
'Cause it's all a part of me.
She just looked at me as if I was crazy and walked away. I couldn’t understand how she didn’t see the pure genius I was listening to here.
Well, the night before the tickets went on sale my friends and I scouted out the Ticketmaster locations in town. We found one place where we were within the first few people in line and we were so sure we would get “the best” seats ever!!! Ever!
As the line started to grow a security guard came out of the building and posted a sign saying that the tickets would not be distributed on a first come first serve basis but in a lottery system instead. This meant we would all be given a ticket, and whomever had that ticket number would be number one in line and everyone else would follow that person. Everyone in line started ranting and raving how unfair this was. So, we all banded together and started our own sign in form, and agreed to not follow the lottery numbers and just keep it as a first come first serve kind of line.
Now don’t get me wrong, it was a great night. We stayed up all night outside the mall, blasting Guns N’ Roses, singing and swearing we were going to beat this lottery system and get ourselves amazing seats.
When morning came, more and more people were showing up to get tickets. By now, people were laughing off our first come first serve list and wanted to take their chances because they were at the back of a very long line by now. Well, sure enough someone at the back of the line’s number got pulled in the lottery and my friends and I were mad that we had been so screwed. Shows you how dumb we were… had we split ourselves up in the line we would have had a better chance. (See, I am still thinking I can beat the damn Ticketmaster lottery system.)
It didn’t really matter though. My seats weren't all that bad, I was on the floor. It was by far the best concert I had ever been to. I don’t know if it was the sleeping out for tickets for the first time that made it so great, or that it was New Years Eve, the great friends I had shared the experience with, or just that it was Axl, Slash and the boys kicking ass, but I am pretty sure I will never see anything like that night again. Unless there is ever a real Guns N Roses reunion... because if there is - does anyone want to try and sleep out for tickets with me?
This fire is burning
And it's out of control...
It's not a problem you can stop -
It's rock n' roll!
