Americans have spent the last couple of months listening to Mitt Romney flip and flounder his way through his campaign. Lying is not beyond the Romney campaign, and if you think it is you obviously did not see Paul Ryan’s speech at the Republican National Convention. We all know Mitt isn’t a middle class man, he does not relate to the average American because he has never been one. He has a bill of goods to sell us, and he will say what he needs to because he wants to be elected. That is what he did last night… with a smile on his face as any good used car salesman would.
Romney says he plans to offset his massive tax cuts with equally massive reductions in tax preferences to broaden the tax base, so we will lose no revenue and not increase the deficit. But, he is not explaining how he can cover all of these tax cuts. Cutting to funding to PBS isn’t going to make a dent in the problem. Just so you know - I read up on this and it seems almost 60% of funding for public television comes from private donors or grants. You know… “Viewers like you.” The government money spent on PBS accounts for a mere 1% of our federal budget. A mere drop in the bucket, so where is the rest of the money going to come from? This he has not explained where the rest of his massive reductions will come from.
Romney also repeated over and over how a government panel was going to tell us what kind of medical treatment we could and couldn’t have. Really? Are we back to talking about the death panels. Didn’t we clear this up when Sarah Palin made those false accusations? In actuality, the board could make some binding recommendations about things like what drugs or medical devices would be paid for by Medicare, but it has no legal power to dictate treatment or ration care. But, if you keep repeating the lie – someone out there will believe it.
I’m not saying Obama isn’t also guilty of pushing his own agenda and twisting his own figures to help his case for reelection. All politicians do it. What I am saying is although Mitt Romney made a good showing last night at the debate I just hope people don’t start to forget what has gone on over the past few months and how much pandering and lying Romney has had to do to cover for his “47 percent” remarks, his lack of sticking to his own beliefs and overall just saying what he needs to just to get elected. I am sure Republican’s like Chris Christie are heralding in today as a new start to the campaign, but I have a brain. I can actually remember what happened during the rest of his campaign. Can Romney really be considered the winner of the debate if he was telling lies?
Romney right now reminds me of the replacement referees in that controversial Greenbay- Seattle game. American’s all over saw the play and knows the call was bad. But, just because the referees said it was a touchdown doesn’t mean that it really was one. No one really thinks Seattle should have won that game based on that bad call – except maybe the Republicans… umm... I mean the Seahawks.
