I was 13 when I started babysitting. I know that seems young, but I had two younger brothers and a younger sister who I would watch a lot, so when the neighbors across from us in New York asked me to come watch their 2 children I am pretty sure they had seen I was capable of handling them. I guess that was my first real paying job.
A year or so later I spent a summer as a candy striper at the hospital. Although there was no pay in that job, it was a lot of work and it made a lot of people happy. There is nothing like being the girl delivering flowers to the room of a new mom or to a person who has just had surgery and the patient asks you to read the card for them. You always got a smile. Plus, I never had to touch a bedpan so it worked out well for me too.
After that I spent many summers as a camp counselor but once Jody and I met we went off and spent a summer working in Milford, Pennsylvania. This was the greatest summer experience.
I had never gotten to go to a sleep away camp I was younger, but here I was in charge of a bunk full of 12 year old girls. They were a great group of kids. We only had one who had a bad case of being homesick, but the rest of the girls had spent past summers at the camp so they all knew each other and got along great. I was the adult that made sure they brushed their teeth and took showers and got to the mess hall on time. It was so much fun.
I’ve had so many other jobs… I worked retail at Clothestime, Hallmark, and Warner Bros. Studio Store. I worked in a few law offices as a secretary. I spent a few years in property management.
But, in my 30’s when Jaden came along I knew I had finally found the job I had been looking for. There is nothing, and I mean absolutely nothing I would rather do than be a mom and raise my children. I am thankful that Jody’s job has allowed for me to be able to stay at home with them. People don’t realize how much goes into being a stay at home mom, but really I don’t have that much free time.
And, once your kids start school, then you start volunteering your time at the school, which can become like a part time job if you let it. And, I know one day soon I will be going back into the working world, which I look forward to, but for now I just try and enjoy my at home job!
My friend's got a girlfriend
Man he hates that bitch
He tells me every day
He says "man I really gotta lose my chick
In the worst kind of way.
She sits on her ass
He works his hands to the bone
To give her money every payday
But she wants more dinero just to stay at home
Well my friend
You gotta say:
"I won't pay, I won't pay ya, no way
Na-na Why don't you get a job"
Say "no way", say "no way ya, no way
Na-na Why don't you get a job"
